Mexico

All our coffee is specialty grade and ethically traded, focusing on relationships and respect for the farmer and farm. All lots are evaluated for cup quality, farm process, and sustainable practice.

Our Mexico single-origin is sourced from the Jaltenango region of the Chiapas state in the southernmost part of Mexico, along the border of Guatemala. Our farms are a part of FESICH,  El Federacion de Sociedades Cooperativas Indigenas y Ecologicas de Chiapas, founded in October of 2009 and representing 1890 smallholder producers from the regions of Angel Albino Corzo, Capitán Luis Ángel Vidal, La Concordia, and Montecristo de Guerrero.

"These areas lie just east of El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve, between the mountain range Sierra Madre de Chiapas and the southernmost reservoir of the Angostura river. The reserve is an important refuge for endemic species (including several endangered mammals) as well as an important touchstone for bird migration. However, El Triunfo is notably the most diverse evergreen cloud forest in Mexico, which contributes to a tropical microclimate, ideal for coffee cultivation in these bordering regions." Nestled on the Guatemalan border, you’ll find the state’s best coffees growing between 1,300 and 1,700 m.a.s.l. Chiapas also holds the crown for producing the most coffee in Mexico, at 40% of the country’s total yield. Many indigenous Mexicans call Chiapas home, but it’s also the country’s poorest state, with a GDP per capita of US $7,249 in 2016.
